You are MY battle-axe..I will use you says the LORD… Jeremiah 51:20

battle-axe: heavy broad-headed ax formerly used as a weapon.

Reading in Jeremiah, I was impressed over and over how GOD stirs up hearts to do what HE wants done. The ones in Jeremiah were primarily heathen hearts, but scripture also shows us in the New Testament, that HE does the same thing in Christian hearts.

For it is GOD at work within you both to want to do HIS will, and then HE enables you to do what HE wants done (Philippians 2:13).

Yet we are not mere puppets, without say in our actions. Our responsibility is to respond to God’s stirring us up. The responsibility of man seems extreme in Jeremiah 48:10 “cursed be those…refusing to do the work that GOD has given them to do!”   I am so glad I am under grace, and not the curse of the law (Galatians 3:10-11).

Yet, we see there is a serious nature concerning the stirring of our hearts, and the nudges given us by GOD, even in the New Testament.  In, we are told to work out into action (Philippians 2:12), that which GOD stirs up within our hearts to want to do, and to be able to do (Philippians 2:13).

And HE (JESUS) died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but for HIM who died for them and raised again (2 Corinthians 5:15).

To him that knows to do good, and does it not, to him it is sin (James 4:17).

There are consequences for our actions, even after we are saved. Rewards for good things done, and discipline for sin (1 Corinthians 11:31-32, Hebrews 12:5-11 )

So don’t be like the ones who resisted the Holy Spirit’s conviction (Acts 7:51).  When GOD stirs up your heart to do something, when you feel a nudging of the Holy Spirit to act, don’t quench the Holy Spirit (I Thessalonians 5:19) obey HIM, step out in faith, make that phone call, stop and help change that tire.  If GOD asks, do it!  GOD promises HE will enable you (I Thessalonians 5:24).

Looking unto JESUS, the Author and Perfecter of my faith.
