Getting a drink

getting a drink

This is a snapshot of Zarai, one of my granddaughters, getting a drink from her father’s hand many Christmases ago.

We as Christians are told to get a drink from our Heavenly FATHER.

“As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the Word that you may grow…”I Peter 2:2

JESUS said that man cannot live (spiritually) by bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of GOD (Matthew 4:4 explanation added).  To get the nourishment to live and grow as a Christian –the one who believes in JESUS (John 3:16) needs a daily input from the Word of GOD.

Every Scripture is GOD-breathed (given by the inspiration of GOD) and is profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to GOD’s will in thought purpose and action), so that the man of GOD may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16,17 AMP)

This is nothing new, for in the Old Testament we are told: “This book of the law (Scripture) shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate therein day & night that you may observe to do according to all that is written therein for then you shall make your way prosperous & then you shall have good success. Have not I commanded you? Be strong, be of good courage, be not afraid neither be dismayed for the LORD thy GOD is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:8,9 explanation added)!

And interestingly, GOD commanded that every Jewish king write out his very own personal copy of scripture, to keep it by him and to read out of it every day so that he would know how to act and that his heart would not become arrogant and lifted up above his fellow Jews (see Deuteronomy 17:18-20).

We are told to drink from the Word, like my little Zarai drank from her bottle and grew into this lovely young lady.

What would have happened if Zarai had refused to drink her bottle?

What happens if we neglect to drink from the pure milk of the Word daily?

I can tell a difference in my thoughts and attitudes if I miss my renewing time in the Word each morning.  Therefore, I drink from the pure milk of GOD’s Word daily that I may live and grow in the knowledge and image of GOD my FATHER and my LORD JESUS CHRIST.  How about you?

Looking unto JESUS the Author and Perfecter of my faith,
